Consortium Student Board Essay Contest

Friends:

The Student Board has been quite active this year.

I can't keep up with them to tell you the truth.

Tomorrow they will announce the two winners of their Student Ecumenical Essay Contest.

There is a cash award as well as the potential for publication in the Eastern Churches Journal.

Our website will announce the winners--after they have been contacted of course.

Peace,

John

Ecumenical Dialogue on Moral Issues

Friends:

I have been absent from this space for a long time--on the road at various meetings that I will report on this week.

It was a pleasure to serve with my two colleagues--Rev. Dr. Timothy Sedgwick, VP and Associate Dean at VTS and Rev. Dr. Robin Steinke, Dean of LTSG--on a panel at the National Workshop on Christian Unity which was held this year in Tampa. We explored, ever so briefly, the horizon for dialogue on moral issues. Suffice it to say, we believe that this dialogue has only just begun after decades of delay.

The reactions to our workshop panel, offered twice, was positive.
The attendance good.

The need now is for following through on our ideas for regional dialogue on foundations for moral living.

I am hoping that we ourselves can make a constructive contribution moving forward.

Peace,
John

Bishop Hoyt to Receive Ecumenism Award and give Annual Figel Lecture

Friends:

I had a delightful luncheon today with Bishop Thomas Hoyt of the Christian Methodist Episcopal Church. He is the former president of the National Council of Churches--and a leading scholar and ecumenist.

He will receive the Ecumenism Award and Give the Annual Figel Lecture in early February, 2011. More details will appear here in the fall.

Peace,
John

PS I hope to give a 'roundup' of many recent events in a posting in about a week.
